Graeme Kerr
Owner
Graeme matriculated at
Glenwood High School and continued with a
qualification of a National Diploma in
Construction. During this time he attended
an LTA construction training program, where
training in all facets of the building
industry were achieved - from bricklaying to
plastering, carpentry, concrete work and
finishing. Graeme then moved to Stocks and
Stocks as a Supervisor, running several
contracts from schools to high rise blocks
of flats, including development phases at
Sun City and Westville Prison.
Graeme has over 30 years experience in the
building Industry and has sound knowledge in
all areas of the construction environment,
from domestic housing to factories, and en
mass concrete structural decks.
Graeme oversees all aspects of the company
ranging from tenders coming in and awards
right through to completion and hand over of
the building project. Daily interaction with
the team keeps everybody on track, and a
common goal represented by the philosophy of
the company. |

Shaun Laubscher
Project Manager
Shaun matriculated in 1993 in Durban and
began working in the construction industry
in 1997, where he worked as a Foreman at a
flooring company. From there, he went on to
become a Site Agent at Lion Construction and
a partner at Metropole Construction in 2006.
He became a member of our
team in 2013 as a Project Manager, and runs
various sites around Durban. He has a team
of Foremen that he manages and that report
to him on a daily basis. Shaun's role is to
make sure material for the sites is ordered
timeously, and to ensure the smooth day to
day running of various sites. He liaises
with clients, architects and
sub-contractors, and ensures that his jobs
run as per schedule, and without unnecessary
delays |

Mark Neethling
Contracts Manager
Mark attended Glenwood High
School, and matriculated in 1987. He went on
to study an Advanced Business Program at DUT
in 1995, before becoming involved in the
Construction sector. He has over 20 years
experience in all aspects of the building
trade.
After working for various
construction companies, Mark joined Graeme
Kerr Building Contractors in 2013 as a
Contracts Manager. Mark oversees all of our
sites, and ensures that everything runs
smoothly from day to day. He analyses
current and future projects in all aspects –
profitability, revenue, margins, bill of
rates and utilization thereof. Our clients
enjoy a good rapport with Mark, as he
provides expert advice and guidance whenever
needed.
He reports to Graeme on a daily basis, and
prepares programs for planning site
activities in detail, setting targets and
accurately forecasts completion dates. |

Jim Oliver
Chief Quantity Surveyor
Jim has over 50 years
experience in the construction industry.
Born in the UK, Jim did his GCSE ‘O’ levels
in Wiltshire, England. He studied law and
economics and went on to study construction,
obtaining a Higher National Diploma and the
Association of the Institute of Builders (AIOB)
qualification.
He started as a trainee
Quantity Surveyor at Dadson & Butler in
Salisbury, and worked his way up to Senior
Quantity Surveyor in Berkshire, England
where he undertook major projects such as
high rise office blocks, schools, banks,
health clubs and shopping malls to name a
few.
Jim returned to South Africa in 1994 and
took a job as a Senior Quantity Surveyor at
GVK Siya Zama in Durban. He became a
valuable member of our team in 2013, where
he holds the position of Chief Quantity
Surveyor. Jim is involved in the estimating
and tender process from start to finish. He
prepares the monthly valuations and final
accounts for clients / principal agents, and
also claims for sub-contractors.

Cathy Paver
Quantity Surveyor
Cathy completed studying
Architecture in 1985, She spent 2 years in
an architectural practice, 2 years in a
civil engineering practice and 4.5 years
freelance designing and drawing residential
housing. After a brief working holiday in
the UK, working on building sites and eager
to get more involved in the hands on
building process, Cathy returned to study
building, completing her National Diploma in
Quantity Surveying in 1995, and a B.Tech. in
Quantity Surveying in 1999.
Her building experience
includes 8 months in civil construction, 5
years in specialist coatings, painting and
refurbishment, 4 years in the construction
of residential housing and 10 years in the
construction of larger buildings, which
included major structural renovations to
some of our well-known heritage buildings in
and around Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Cathy joined us in April
2015. Although her principal role is that of
Quantity Surveying and Estimating, Cathy’s
Building and Architectural skills complement
the team on various levels. She is
passionate about buildings, enjoying working
directly with clients as well as getting
involved in the practicalities of the
building process. |

Hawukani Nyathi
Junior Quantity Surveyor
Hawukani joined us in 2014 as
a Junior Quantity Surveyor, and assists Jim
and Cathy in our estimating department.
After matriculating in 2006, she did her
National Diploma in Building with
Construction Management and Quantity
Surveying as majors in 2011.
She then went on to work as an intern and
Junior Quantity Surveyor at Sifiso’s
Building Contractors until 2014, her key
role of employment being measurements both
from drawings and on site, progress claims
and assisting the Quantity Survey Department
in all aspects of quoting and tendering. |
